Life this Monday

Life often has a way of getting in the way.

Know what I mean?  Ever feel like that?

We can make our lists and calendar notations, and
plan, plan, plan.

But in the end Life. Happens.

When you were a kid, did you ever stomp your feet and
loudly declare “You’re not the boss of me!” Oh, c’mon, admit it.
I’m sure I told that to plenty of babysitters in my day.

Well, Life is the BOSS, I mean of us all. So we better have some empty lines on those lists, for changes and unexpected little adjustments it throws us.

The last Monday Post had me whizzing around, preparing for my “ladies’ lunch”. It was happily exciting but there was a lot to be done (in my opinion). As the week progressed, life took over and punched the poop out of my lists. I did manage to pull off a nice luncheon, but the following week proved just as hectic, for reasons of its’ own so no update posts for you. Apologies but hey, we all survived.

POSITIVES

  • Weather was freezing BUT clear for safe driving.
  • The house looked pretty.darn.good.
  • Menu was a hit … tasted good and no one needed TUMS.
  • We all had a nice visit.

NEGATIVES

  • Weather was FREEZING
  • Table setting looked fantastic (if I do say so myself) BUT I FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES!
  • Didn’t finish the look I wanted on the guest favors (gave them anyway, but not prettied up)
  • Left out an item on the menu … totally forgot to prepare it (but there was enough other stuff)
  • Oh yes, and did I say … I FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES

WHAT I LEARNED (or was reminded of)

  • Lists are good, but leave room for write-in’s and changes.
  • Be more flexible and less frazzled
  • Asking granddaughter to contribute was great. It was encouraging for her and something for me … to brag about & good eatin’ too. (don’t worry, I paid her)

Back to the present Monday.  I’m working on a couple of good (can I say very good?) future posts, but this is IT for today.

The only (two) pictures I did manage to remember, are featured.  One of my guests – as they were leaving, and  a shot of the yummy cupcakes my GD Ashley made. They were sooooo good!

Magnolias in The Snow

The national weather reports were on this morning,
as I sat catching up on emails.
Minnesota is often featured in the worst winter weather areas.
Last week yes . . . but not today!

Things look heavenly in Minnesota compared to the snow hell out east.

Source  Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this.

ARTZZLE.com

Gracie Mae DOES NOT favor winter!
She DOES have a cleared outdoor spot for her “jobs”,
but has given up her many daily walks,
content to remain inside, staying warm!

Although, she does still get her exercise

roaming the halls in search of every bit of sunshine!
She moves from room to room in the house,
as the sun repositions throughout the day.

BEFORE our snow arrived here, we had very up-and-down temperatures.

You may remember that we have a magnolia tree,
even though we live in Minnesota … some sort of hybrid.
During our first “pre-snow” cold snap, the tree lost all of its’ leaves.

But we then had an odd few days of very warm temps,
that totally confused our poor magnolia …
and she budded out again, as if it were Spring.

Now you know I love all sorts of branches and such,
especially pussy willows.
Well Mags’ buds look like giant pussy willows,
so naturally I had to cut a bunch and bring em’ in for decor!

I filled one of my big ole’ crocks with water
and put them on top of the kitchen cabinets …
where they stayed for a week or two, all cute and fuzzy.

Making coffee last Sunday morning,
I happened to look up and was elated by what I saw!

Those little fuzzies were

BLOOMING !?!

Hubs took one look,
and said they had to come down to the table!

So the upper display was altered …
(think I’ll have to do some tweaking and raise that terra cotta piece up)

the table display was moved to the credenza

and the crock of buds took center stage on the table.

Each day they offer more wonderful surprises.

Even the finale blooms are beautiful.

But Mags wasn’t out of surprises yet!
Her flowers have also contributed that wonderful magnolia fragrance.
Love It!

Well … this IS Wednesday, so technically I didn’t miss a Whatever Wednesday.

Stay safe and warm as we gear up for the holidays, and remember
don’t stress too much about anything, just start something
and see where it goes!

Such a “girly” Girl

Artzzle.com

Gracie Mae is our “girly” girl.

Quite the fashionista . . . she’s always up with the latest looks.
ARTZZLE.COM
She absolutely adores white shoes . . . and has several pairs.

Gray and pink are trademark colors for Grace . . . in attire AND accessories. ARTZZLE.COM
That scarf goes so nicely with your gorgeous fur coat, Grace.

Leopard print is a fabric of choice so, she had a special throw designed. ARTZZLE.COM
Ooh, Gracie . . . how chic!

As a true Minnesotan, Grace loves every little bit of sunlight, so she puts her favorite chair right by the window. Clever arrangement here, as she can sun and attend to her important guard dog duties, simultaneously.
ARTZZLE.COM
Wonderful planning, GM.

Always ahead in the decor game too, our gal constantly surrounds herself with home style magazines, and loves all mom’s design books.
ARTZZLE.COM
Traditional Home is one of her most loved suscriptions.

SPECIAL NOTE HERE: The photo above had a second shot as well, with Grace laying on top of a pile of magazines. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out . . . because I climbed up into the upholstered chair to take it from a different angle . . . but all I took was . . . a terrible fall to the floor. In mid air, just as I said "Whew, I could have hit my head on the piano!" . . . I smashed my back into a metal based ottoman(with very little padding left on top).

LONG STORY SHORT . . . I cracked two ribs, and laid there on the floor, while calling Hubs home from work, for yet another ER trip. Positives to be taken from this. 1. I have sworn off climbing up on anything (at least when I’m the only one home). 2. This pain, while very uncomfortable, is much easier to tolerate than lower back and disk pain. Oh yes, #3. Hubs got off of work!

But now . . . back to Gracie’s story.

Grace is also very economical and environmentally minded. Her favorite toys are the tubes from TP and Paper towels.
ARTZZLE.COM
Good girl, GM . . . reuse, recyle!

But absolute proof of our “girly girl” claims . . .
Artzzle.com
Gracie Mae hates mornings!! AHhhh!

Artzzle.com
Every morning when she hears me coming down the hall . . .

Artzzle.com
she tries pretending she’s still asleep . . . thinking I’ll go away and leave her alone.

The ploy never works though.
Artzzle.com
Yah yah . . . OK . . . I'm awake."

But she doesn’t fret for too long . . .
Artzzle.com
. . . just finds another spot where the sun’s better anyway!

So there you have it . . . the tough and tragic life of Gracie Mae.

Being a good mom, not to be unfair and mean, one day soon, I’ll share Fozz’s routine.

Until then, stay safe, stay positive and . . . don’t stress, just start something.
